- Carefully remove the splash guards to access the steering rack.
- Locate the Plunger:
- Using the tubular spanner set, locate the plunger on the steering rack assembly. It may be positioned on either side of the rack.
- Remove the Plunger:
- Use the appropriate size tubular spanner to loosen and remove the plunger from the steering rack assembly. You may need to use locking pliers to hold the rack in place while removing the plunger.
- Once removed, inspect the plunger for any signs of wear or damage.
- Apply Grease:
- Ensure the plunger and its housing are clean and free from debris.
- Apply a generous amount of grease to the plunger and the housing to ensure smooth operation and reduce friction.
- Insert the Plunger:
- Carefully insert the greased plunger back into its housing on the steering rack assembly.
- Ensure the plunger is seated securely and aligns properly with the rack.
- Adjust the Tightness:
- Using the tubular spanner set, adjust the tightness of the plunger to achieve the desired preload on the steering rack.
- Tighten the plunger gradually, making small adjustments until the desired preload is achieved.
- Use locking pliers to hold the rack in place if necessary while adjusting the plunger.
- Test Steering:
- After adjusting the preload, lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
- Start the engine and test the steering wheel for smooth operation.
- Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to ensure there is no excessive play or binding.
- Final Inspection:
- Double-check all connections and ensure the plunger is securely tightened.
- Reinstall the splash guards and tighten the bolts securely.
