SYMPTOMS:

  • Squealing or chirping, especially upon starting the engine.
  • Grinding or rattling sounds from the engine area.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS:

  • Jack and Jack stands
  • Wrenches
  • 10 mm allen wrench
  • New tensioner bearing

PROCEDURES:

  • Safety First
    • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Lifting the Vehicle:
    • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands.
  • Remove the Compressor Belt
    • Locate the compressor belt.
    • Loosen any bolts or tensioners that secure the compressor belt and slide the belt off the pulleys.
  • Loosen the Tensioner Bearing
    • Locate the tensioner bearing and use an appropriate wrench or socket to loosen the tensioner assembly.
  • Remove the Serpentine Belt
    • Slide the serpentine belt off the tensioner pulley and remove it from the other pulleys.
  • Remove the Tensioner Bearing
    • Locate and remove the bolts holding the tensioner bearing assembly to the engine block.
    • Carefully remove the tensioner bearing assembly from the engine.
  • Install the New Tensioner Bearing
    • Position the new tensioner bearing assembly in place.
    • Hand-tighten the mounting bolts to secure the new tensioner bearing.
    • Tighten the bolts.
  • Reinstall the Serpentine Belt
    • Route the serpentine belt over the pulleys.
    • Allow the belt to be placed over the tensioner pulley.
    • Carefully release the tensioner to apply tension to the belt.
  • Tighten the Belt Using the Allen Wrench
    • Use Allen wrench to adjust and tighten the belt to the proper tension.
    • Ensure the belt is properly aligned and seated on all pulleys.
  • Reinstall the Compressor Belt
    • Place the compressor belt back onto the pulleys.
    • Tighten any bolts or tensioners that secure the compressor belt.
  • Start the Engine
    • Start the engine and observe the belt and tensioner operation.
    • Listen for any unusual noises and ensure the belt runs smoothly over the pulleys.
